Cabin village Laftestølen

Laftestølen is one of the most exclusive cabin developments in Norway’s fastest-growing ski resort, Kvitfjell. Designed and developed by LHM Group, the project consists of 29 premium mountain cabins built in two distinct construction methods: traditional log cabins made entirely of solid timber logs, and stavlaft (log-frame) cabins, which combine vertical posts and horizontal log beams for structural strength and architectural flexibility.

Fjell Entreprenør, as part of LHM Group, is responsible for the key finish construction of all cabins — demonstrating expertise in both authentic log-building techniques and modern log-frame solutions.

New construction

Construction concept – cabin types

  • Log cabins – entirely built of solid timber logs, offering unmatched natural character, thermal performance, and longevity.
  • Log-frame (stavlaft) cabins – combining upright posts and horizontal logs for stability, energy efficiency, and a refined traditional aesthetic.

Core construction details

  • Foundations: insulated slab with radon barrier, pipe-in-pipe plumbing, water stop valve, and 300L hot water tank.
  • Roof: compact warm roof with 280 mm insulation and pre-grown turf (torvtak).
  • Cladding (stavlaft cabins): swedish spruce, factory-painted for weather resistance.
  • Windows: triple-glazed wooden windows with U-value ~0.8.
  • Doors: solid exterior doors and metal-framed sliding terrace doors.
  • Heating: waterborne underfloor heating system throughout.

Interior execution

The interiors of all Laftestølen cabins reflect Nordic authenticity with natural oak and pine finishes and precise detailing. Walls and ceilings are covered with painted pine wood panels, complemented by exposed beams., flooring – natural oak parquet. Custom-made pine doors and trims ensure a cohesive design.

Key interior features

  • Stone tiles in entrances, small WCs, and storage rooms.
  • Ceramic tiles in bathrooms, with mitred corners for a clean and exclusive look.
  • Central fireplaces in living spaces.
  • Glass partitions on upper floors for openness and light.
  • Fully tiled bathrooms with walk-in showers.
  • Custom-built saunas.
  • Tailored staircases, designed and installed on site.

Result

Laftestølen represents a rare combination of scale and exclusivity in Norwegian cabin construction. By building both solid log and stavlaft cabins within one development, Fjell Entreprenør proves its technical breadth and ability to deliver traditional craftsmanship at a modern, large-scale level.

The project demonstrates how heritage construction methods can be executed to today’s highest standards — offering owners robust, energy-efficient, and timeless mountain homes.
