This premium cabin in Geilo was designed and built in the traditional stavlaft method — a traditional Norwegian log-frame construction that combines robust timber structure with modern comfort. The cabin is situated in a high-altitude location, requiring durable materials, precision engineering, and energy-efficient systems suited for harsh mountain conditions.

Structural concept
The house is built on a solid, insulated flat concrete slab foundation, providing excellent structural stability and supporting a water-based underfloor heating system throughout the interior. The log-frame walls follow the authentic stavlaft method — a traditional Norwegian technique that uses vertical log posts and horizontal beams to create a strong, resilient structure with timeless character.
Core construction details
- Foundation: Cast-in-place insulated concrete slab with radon protection
- Walls: Factory-painted Swedish spruce cladding with weatherproof finish
- Roof: Compact green roof (kompakttak) with 280 mm insulation and pre-grown turf modules, designed to withstand snow load
- Windows: Triple-glazed wooden windows (U-value ~0.8) for insulation and energy efficiency
- Panoramic view: panoramic windows in living room and corner panoramic window in the bedroom
- Doors: Metal-framed sliding exterior doors, and solid custom pine interior doors with handcrafted trims
- Terrace doors: Metal-framed sliding terrace doors for light and access
- Heating: Water-based underfloor heating system, zonally controlled
- Drainage: Integrated water management and eaves system
Interior execution
The interior was completed using painted pine wood panels on both walls and ceilings, maintaining a warm, natural cabin atmosphere while providing a clean and finished look. All interior doors were custom-made from pine, with handcrafted trims around doors and windows, delivering a consistent, elegant finish.
A Brunner fireplace was installed as a central architectural feature, providing both warmth and visual focus in the main living area.

- Entry flooring: Natural Altaskifer stone tiles (27×57 cm)

- Fully tiled bathrooms with walk-in showers
- Glass partitions on the upper floor to allow light flow and spatial connection
- Brunner fireplace as a design centerpiece in the living space
- Custom made interior doors with floor, door and ceiling moldings, painted in color matching floor and stairs
